Wafer Paper Rose Wedding Cake

One morning I was woken up by a call from New York.  The bride apologized that it might be too late but hoping that I can make her wedding cake for her and that I am highly recommended by her close friend.  Flattered and flustered at the same time as I had planned to go somewhere on her wedding week ....so just as well I took the order and postponed the trip.  Oh yes...the wedding was in Penang.

She wanted something like the Wafer Paper Peony Wedding Cake but with roses instead....in shades of pink.  We added my all time favorite lace pattern with genuine Swarovski crystals studded on in and a string of faux pearls to finish the ensemble.  I used wafer paper for all roses, freesia and foliage.  I have yet to master the art of making hydrangeas look natural with wafer paper so still resort to sugar paste....but will soon!!!! Hahaha.

Wafer Paper Peony Wedding Cake

I was very happy when the bride of this cake wanted lots of peonies and hydrangeas .....and a free reign to design her dream cake.  She loves the fresh spring colors from my earlier cakes but prefers classic lace design on it so we settled for fondant type molded lace.

As I am very very into wafer paper flowers recently all peonies and foliage are of this media except the hydrangeas which sooner or later will be made with it as well.

Anyway when I uploaded some photos on Cakes Decor it was chosen as 'Daily Top 3'!!!
